Reserve Deputy Sheriff PrograM

The reserve deputy is a volunteer, uniformed Sheriff's Office position. Reserve deputies assist fully commissioned deputies in their daily work assignment. They also assist with special events like concerts, crime scenes, and community events. Reserve deputies are armed and are granted a limited commission by the Sheriff upon completion of a Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Reserve Academy.

As volunteers, reserve deputies are not paid for their work. Participants in the reserve program receive no compensation other than the sense of pride one feels from serving their community and participating in the Law Enforcement process.

Each reserve deputy must serve a minimum of 20 hours each month. These duties may include riding along with patrol deputies as well as attending regularly scheduled meetings and training. Reserve deputies may be called out for duties such as securing major crime scenes and during natural disasters.
